The youth company will provide dancers with the opportunity to work in tangent with professional artists during Alma Dance Theater’s professional productions. Acceptance into the Alma Dance Youth Company is by invitation or audition only.

Youth Company Details

Under the artistic direction of Guillermo Leyva and Vilma Machin, members of the ADYC will participate in a well-balanced schedule of classes and rehearsals that will include: classical ballet technique, pointe, variations, character/Folklore dance, modern/contemporary, partnering, repertoire and conditioning classes (for increasing strength and flexibility). In addition, as part of the Alma Dance Youth Company, dancers will be provided individual guidance and instruction for auditions and competitions under the discretion of the artistic directors.

Performance Opportunities

Youth Company members will receive performance experience through participation in Alma Dance Theater’s annual performances of the Nutcracker and Simply Classic Series and through outreach performances and in studio presentations. The ADYC will perform alongside our company dancers in main-stage productions and in their own studio and venue performances. Dancers will be able to to learn from up and coming choreographers and perform an array of repertoire and solo work.

Youth Company Policies

  • Dancers will commit to one year-round agreement. This contract will begin on August 20th, 2018 and finish on August, 10th 2019. (forty-six weeks contract)
  • ADYC members will have classes 6 days a week. In addition, Youth Company dancer's  will have rehearsals on Thursdays from 6:00-8:30pm and Saturdays from 12:30-6:30pm.
  • Dancers will have 19.5 hours of training every week in addition to 8.5 hours rehearsals per week.
  • Dancers who are members of the Alma Dance Youth Company are expected to participate in our summer intensive program which will run from July 1st through August 10th, 2019
  • One of the wonderful aspects of the Youth Company is that all of its classes and rehearsals will run during afternoons and at night to provide our Youth Company members the flexibility to attend traditional school or explore homeschooling, depending on whichever is the best education solution for them. This aspect is unique in regards to other youth companies because many other programs are only able to work with homeschooled students. However, we recognize that there are many ways to receive a strong education and prepare for a professional dance career simultaneously.
